MY TEENAGE DAUGHTER STILL WET THE BED:

(WHAT CAN I DO TO HELP HER STOP)

As parents I know looking after young kids who wet the bed is very challenging, let alone a teenager. It’s so embarrassing and shameful.

But it isn’t uncommon for some people to wet the bed in their teens.

Some of the causes can be genetics. Yes! They may have parents or auntie’s that used to wet the bed too 😀

The bottom line is that your teens will outgrow it.

But in the meantime let’s talk about how to help them.

  1. The first thing I’d suggest, if you haven’t already, is see a Dr ASAP. There could be a ton of different reasons why she’s still wetting the bed; sometimes it’s as simple as stress! But it could be something that needs medication or other medical treatment.
  2. The next thing to do is get her a waterproof mattress cover. You should also start limiting her water intake a few hours before bed; even if she argues; the closer to bed she drinks, the better the chance she wets.
  3. Get her a  bedwetting alarm from Amazon! it detects moisture and will wake her up if it detects she’s started to wet and prevent a larger mess.

If she doesn’t like the idea of an alarm, setting a phone alarm for every 2–3 hours overnight and having her get up and sit on the toilet, even if she doesn’t have to urinate, just to try, it might help.

Lastly, maybe get her some pull-up diapers!  She might not like to, but she has to start wearing diapers to bed. There are a lot of different solutions out there for her, like pull-ups or briefs that will help protect her sheets.

MY FINAL THOUGHT

Wetting the bed can be embarrassing. So it’s important not to look down on your daughter or belittle her because she is already feeling ashamed.

Dear parents, so please let’s be gentle and more considerate about the way we talk and treat them during this challenging period of their time. Remember that they are not wetting the bed on purpose.
