Spending time with my granddaughter (Athena) always brings me joy.
I get to spend a week with her before she goes back home. So I make sure I cherish every moment.
Athena doesn’t like to wake up early. So it’s always tricky to get her ready on time especially if I have to leave home early.
So I understand that raising children is hard work.
However, I made sure that we had a routine that she needed to follow. For example, I make sure we read a page or two from a book before we sleep every night.
This is a struggle to keep it up every night because I’m a busy person and I’m always tired at night, but I tried to do this because it’s a way for us to bond together and it’s also beneficial for her in the long run.
Most times we only spend 5 to 10 minutes reading a page and we discuss it. Athena loves it whenever we do this quick reading 😀
I think the reason she enjoys it is that her mom (my daughter) has been doing that with her at home, so it’s second nature to her.
I can also see how her vocabulary has improved, she reads and understands some big words and she also can make inferences.
Taking time to read to your child in the morning or before bedtime is crucial for their academic success. They will thank you in the future. So make the effort today.
Read to your child or have then read to you daily.
Children need books in their lives. Children whose parents read to them before they start school have larger vocabularies. They have prior knowledge to tie their learning to.
Most children struggle with comprehension and Solving Maths word problems.
Regular reading practice helps children understand and interpret the text more effectively. And this will help them do well in school
Your Tube has an artist that reads books to children – it is called Storytime. Check it out and maybe watch it with your younger children.
It will help if your children can listen to it.
