Most times when our kids walk into the room the first thing we do is check if their hair is fixed well, we check if their shoes are ok, we check for things that are wrong with their appearance. We forget that all our children want to see is if we are happy to see them, not what’s wrong with them!
Most of the time when any of my kids (students) walk into our centre or I see them anywhere I make sure they know I SEE them and I always love how their faces light up when I give them compliments or hugs 🤗
So my advice today for you as one parent to another is to always try your best to show affection to your children every day! Because remember they are your greatest blessings.
HERE ARE 4 WAYS WE CAN SHOW AFFECTIONS TO OUR KIDS
- In the morning when they wake up, try to say positive things about them to them and I bet you if you do this often you will see significant change in their behaviour.
- If you have more than one child, please try to spend individual time with each child because every child needs to feel important. Spend at least 10 to 15 minutes each day giving one-on-one attention and make sure they choose the activity.
- LISTEN- Give them your undivided attention and listen to them. ( I once asked a six year old about how she knew someone care for her, she said “I know my mum cares for me because she listen to me and play with me”)
- BE AFFECTIONATE: Give them hugs, tell them you love them often. You can also show love and affection by giving them compliments and giving them rewards for their accomplishments.
Happy summer and make sure that you spend quality time with them during this summer because the summer holiday will soon be over!
Allow them to be kids! Take them outdoors, and take them to the park to play with other kids!
So can you share with me what summer activities have you planned for your children this summer?
Happy parenting
